Biographical Information
Giles Davis was born in Union County, Indiana, 7 Nov. 1824. Son of a farmers Elisha and Elizabeth (Shafer) Davis, both of Ohio. Married Louisa Jinks of franklin County, Ind. He came to Coles County, Ill. in 1871 and started keeping a meat market in Charleston. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and the Knights of Honor and a member of the Farmers Club of Charleston Township.
Scope and Content
Account book, 1875-1878, for the Davis and Bower City Meat Market in Charleston, Illinois. Giles Davis (1828-1878), who was one of the owners seems to have made most of the entries.
