Fitzgerald ('Fitz') Flourney was a member of the Washington and Lee University Class of 1920.
This collection includes letters to and from John L. Campbell, Dean at Washington and Lee University, as well as letters to, from, and concerning Frank J. Gilliam, who was a member of the Washington and Lee class of 1917, 1912-1926. Campbell and Gilliam correspond about several members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity being unable to return for the next semester due to grades. They also correspond about a prospective student from Lynchburg.
This collection also includes a group of Christmas cards and notes, which were written by Prof. Fitzgerald Flournoy, to Mr. Jefferson D. Reed, Jr., WLU Class of 1928, and his wife, 1957-1960, 1963. They contain some original poetry written by Dr. Flournoy. They were all good friends, and Dr. Flournoy use to visit the Reed family in the Summer, while he was vacationing in the Tidewater area. This part of the collection was transferred from The W&L Development Office to Special Collections in 2021.
