Historical Information

The "Daredemo Photographer" exhibit, which translates roughly to "everyone can be a photographer," was conceived by Japanese photographer Shoukou Hashimoto following the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami. With cameras sponsored by the UIFA-Japon chapter, Shoukou Hashimoto trained residents of Iwaizumi to document their experiences and environments in the two years following the disaster. The photographs were first exhibited in Japan at a rail station in Omoto. The IAWA Center sponsored a second exhibition of "Daredemo Photographer" obn the Virginia Tech campus from May 11-13, 2013.
