Biographical Information
Frank C. Kitts, Jr. was born on January 31, 1911 in Tazewell County, Virginia. He attended Tazewell High School and later joined the band section of the 150th infantry stationed at Camp Conley in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. During these years, he enjoyed going to plays, dances, and football games. Later in life, he was a member of the U.S. Guard Band and Virginia's Postmasters Association.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of a scrapbook created by Frank C. Kitts, Jr. It contains various mementoes from his life.
Most of these mementoes include correspondence such as letters, invitations, Christmas cards, and postcards; stamps; locks of hair; newspaper clippings of obituaries, marriage notices, school and sports news, and society pages; calling cards; Tazewell High School play tickets and programs for the group, Beads on a String; Tazewell high school football schedules and tickets; and love poems.
Some notable items include a menu for Appalachian Lunch in Bluefield, West Virginia; a Chevrolet advertising paddle that contains handwritten musings about friendship; a poem about separated lovers; an American Legion pin; and a wooden ice-cream spoon dated August 14, 1932.
