Letter of invitation dated December 17, 1861 from Anna Lee to General P. G. T. Beauregard to attend a country dance on Christmas evening at Meadow Farm, Virginia, home to the Sheppard Family in Henrico County. Attributed to Anne "Annie" Carter Lee (1839-1862), fourth child of General Robert E. Lee and Mary Randolph Custis.

Biographical Information

Anne "Annie" Carter Lee, born in 1839, was the fourth child of General Robert E. Lee and Mary Anna Randolph Custis. She maintained a close relationship with her famous father. Anne suffered poor health throughout her short life, but nevertheless devoted much of her time to teaching slave children Bible scriptures and lessons at the Lee family residence, Arlington House. She died in 1862 of typhoid fever.


Scope and Content

This collection contains a letter of invitation from Anna Lee to Confederate General P. G. T. Beauregard of the Confederate Army to attend a country dance at Meadow Farm in Henrico County, Virginia, on Christmas evening 1861. The letter is dated December 17, 1861 from Meadow Farm.
