Scope and Content Information

The Brother Rat collection contains photographs, playbills, clippings, correspondence, scripts, and other items documenting the stage and film versions of Brother Rat by Fred F. Finklehoffe and John Monks, Jr. Set at the Virginia Military Institute, from which the authors graduated in 1932, the play was a Broadway hit in 1936 and was subsequently produced by many regional theaters. The film was produced by Hal B. Wallis for Warner Brothers Studios in 1938. Its stars included Ronald Reagan, Eddie Albert, and Jane Wyman.
