Scottish writer who spent part of her childhood living in the United States.
The collection consists of a single letter from Anne Grant to a Mrs. Beecroft, 1837 May 4, discussing the death of her daughter-in-law, severity of the past winter, politics, religion, improvement in society due to the influence of women, and news of friends including Lord John Campbell, the 7th duke of Argyll and the death of John Lowell, Jr. She briefly mentions Elizabeth and William Carter; Don Pedro, King of Spain; the "Edinburgh Review"; the Lowell Institute; Hannah More's "Life and Letters"; and Catherine Sinclair and her book "Modern Accomplishments."
