Amanda Sarah Boyd Letters, Accession #4618-c, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This collection was a gift to the Library from Mr. and Mrs. Homer G. Richey of Charlottesville, Virginia, on October 7, 1983, and bears no restrictions.
This collection consists chiefly of letters to Amanda Sarah Boyd (1833-1918) of Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, largely from her nieces and nephews, children of her three sisters who married three Vick brothers and moved to Lexington and Tanglewood, Texas. There are also several letters from the sisters themselves. Topics of interest in the letters pertain primarily to family matters: births, deaths, illnesses, and marriages. There are references to local crimes, cotton and other crops, the weather, school, quiltings, and religious meetings. The Farmers Alliance is briefly mentioned.
Included in the collection are letters and genealogical chartes regarding the Vick, Boyd, McDowell, and Seale families.
