Papers of the Jones Family, Accession #2428-a, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This material was given to the Library by Walter H. Buck of Baltimore, Maryland, ca. 1945.
There are fifty-two items, 1790-1820, pertaining to the Jones family, particularly Isaac and Thomas Jones, of Spotsylvania and Stafford counties. Among the business papers, 1803-1814, of Isaac Jones are: license to sell merchandise of foreign growth and manufacture by retail, February 1810; beef account, September 1813; and, various receipts and notes. Among the business papers, 1790-1804, of Thomas Jones are: record of mortgage, April 1790; bill of sale from William True for "one negro slave by name Letty," November 1795; and, various receipts and notes. The business papers, 1792-1819, of the Jones family include some papers of Gabriel Jones. There are court orders demanding payment, 1801-1809, to Isaac and Thomas Jones. There are also legal papers, 1790-1803 and 1820, of Isaac Jones pertaining to the estate of Thomas Brown, which include the will of Mr. Brown and a document concerning the suit of Spillman vs. Lewis.
