Acquisition Information

This collection was a gift of Rutledge C. Clement and Henry T. Clement of Danville, Va. and Chatham, Va., 1970 May 8.

Processing Information

Boxes were not re-numbered when six boxes of official records of the Pittsylvania County Court were transferred to the Library of Virginia in October, 1975. Thus, there is a gap in numbering between boxes 2 and 9.

Biographical/Historical Information

Maud Carter Clement was a writer and historian of southwestern Virginia.

Scope and Content

Genealogical information and local history of Pittsylvania County, Va. are the main interests of the collection of Mrs. Clement, a southwest Virginia historian and writer. Correspondence, articles, speeches, garden club material, and memorabilia are also included. The collection contains surveyors maps of southwest Virginia and an extract of a 1795 diary of Marsha D. Blodgett.

Separated Material

Six boxes of official records of the Pittsylvania County Court (originally boxes 3-8) were transferred to the Library of Virginia in October, 1975.
