Papers of David Ames Wells, Accession #7318 , Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This collection was purchased on February 25, 1963.
This collection consists of two letters to W. W. Greenough discussing a paper delivered at a meeting of the British Association for Promotion of Science which compared price-trade versus protection in Victoria and South Wales, Australia; the tax on gas and petroleum; and national accounts for the fiscal year.
There are also an engraving and a photograph of Wells.
Discusses the previous September's meeting of British Association for Promotion of Science, particularly the Economics Section in which a paper was read on results of price-trade and protection in Victoria and South Wales, Australia: results favored South Wales where no protection existed; needs copy to use in tariff fight; asks Greenough to send one from Boston Public Library; offers to bear Adams Express costs.
Says he thinks tax will be removed on gas ans petroleum; making up national accounts for fiscal year and will work on prospecting for next; will send letters so Greenough can make inquiries, get them from Mr. Bullock.
