Scope and Content Information

This collection consists of a letter from Jared Sparks, Boston, Massachusetts, to Charles C. Wellford, merchant of Fredericksburg, Virginia, May 30, 1831. In the letter, Sparks discusses the plans of Wellford and others of Fredericksburg to erect a monument at the gravesite of the mother of George Washington, Mary Ball Washington, and to establish a charitable fund with any surplus money raised for the project.
