Frank R. Stockton , Washington, D.C. , to an editor, Mr. Walker1899 Mar 18ALS, 3 p.
[Writes in response to Walker's proposition that Stockton produce four or five short stories a year for his magazine that novels proved so much more lucrative than short stories and describes the conditions under which he would consider an agreement to fulfill his request, "I would be glad to write for you, say, eight stories, each entirely distinct in itself, to be published by you at any time which may suit you, provided they all appear before the end of 1900. These would be humorous, even somewhat fanciful, perhaps, and while they each would have different characters, adventures etc. there would be that general thread running through them, which when amplified for the book, would string them all together." He then goes on to discuss the method and amount of payment for the stories.]
