This addition to the papers of the Henkel family of New Market, Shenandoah County, Virginia , contains fourteen items, 1810-1868, including correspondence, receipts and promissory notes, and an untitled incomplete manuscript in German. Four of the five letters are addressed to Ambrose Henkel .

tells Ambrose about the need for another Lutheran Synod in the Virginia area; he and his father had withdrawn from the Virginia Synod two years previously due to the conduct of some of its principal members, and asks for a ministerial license from the Tennessee Synod (English)
