This collection consists of ca. 355 items, ca. 1809-1908, pertaining to families in Buckingham County . There are correspondence, personal papers, and legal papers of these families, especially the Fontaine family . Papers of Walter L. Fontaine , a lawyer in Buckingham County and Cumberland County , concern his practice and his actions as executor of several estates. Included is a list of receipts for bonds presented for suit to Valentine W. Southall including an 1819 bond from Wilson Cary Nicholas and Thomas Jefferson Randolph to John Wayles Eppes . There are also a letter, March 12, 1820, from John Wayles Eppes to Walter A. Fontaine , which mentions Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Jefferson Randolph ; and, a letter, February 24, 1828, from John Daniel to Walter Fontaine regarding bonds.
