This letter, December 21, 1856, from William Cabell Rives (1793-1868), "Castle Hill," Cobham, Virginia , to Messrs. [Joseph] Gales (1786-1860) and [William Winston] Seaton (1785-1866) of the National Intelligencer , expresses appreciation for their "very handsome introduction and endorsement" of [ Home and the World ] by Mrs. [Judith Page Walker] Rives (1802-1882). Rives also writes that his wife wishes to have the honor of sending copies of her book to Mrs. Gales and Mrs. Seaton in remembrance of their kindness.
