Custodial History

The physical scrapbooks were loaned to the RU Archives from the Kenley Family, heirs to Myrtle Lawrence Shelor and owners of the photographs and scrapbooks in this collection. The Kenley family gave the RU Archives digital reproduction rights including rights to copy images, save digital copies, and reproduce them on the RU Archives website. The original scrapbooks and photographs were returned to the Kenley family in February 2012.

Biographical Information

Myrtle Lawrence Shelor of Pilot, Virginia, graduated from the State Normal School for Women at Radford in 1922, and taught school in Riner, Pilot, Shawsville, and Dry Valley, Virginia. The photos in the Myrtle Lawrence Shelor Photo Collection depict Ms. Shelor, her friends and family, the college at Radford, and the surrounding area during the time period 1918-1920s. Myrtle Lawrence Shelor married Garnet Allen Kenley, and their grandson, William Allen Kenley, graduated from Radford University in 1987.

Scope and Content

The photos in the Myrtle Lawrence Shelor Photo Collection depict Ms. Shelor, her friends and family, the college at Radford, and the surrounding area during the time period 1918-1920s.The physical collection consists of three scrapbooks with photographs mounted on each page, and the pages were scanned without removing the photographs from the book to keep the scrapbooks intact. The original scrapbooks and photographs were returned to the Kenley family in February 2012. This collection is only available in digital format at Myrtle Lawrence Shelor Photograph Collection

Arrangement

The actual scrapbooks have been returned to the owners per stipulations of the loan agreement.
