Papers of Ernest F. Reynolds, Accession #2006.7.05, Roanoke Public Libraries, Roanoke, VA
Donated by Ernest F. Reynolds
Ernest Reynolds was originally from West Virginia and moved to Roanoke later in life. He had early connections to coal mining (it is inferred that his father was a miner) and obviously nurtured a passion for the topic and others that centered on West Virginia and the surrounding areas. Reynolds was also a writer and had several articles and short stories on coal mining published in various papers and magazines. Many rough and final drafts of these articles are included in this collection. Reynolds passed away in November of 2009 at the age of 92.
This collection consists of materials such as photographs, articles, maps and brochures collected by the creator predominately on coal mining and coal mines in West Virginia and Virginia. Also included are materials pertaining to iron furnaces in Virginia and West Virginia and geographical locations of interest to the creator. Contents of the collection were originally held in three-ring binders, however the contents were removed from this housing for preservation purposes. The order in which the items were placed in the binders by the creator was maintained.
Materials specific to coal mining are arranged alphabetically with other topics arranged alphabetically thereunder.
