The Edith F. Hawkshaw Notes were purchased by Special Collections and University Archives in November 2019 with the Eleanore Pettersen Endowment for the Preservation of Women and Architectural History .
The processing, arrangement, and description of the Edith F. Hawkshaw Notes were completed in July 2021.
Edith Fanny Hawkshaw was born in 1847 in Oxfordshire, England, the daughter of Reverend Edward Hawkshaw. Edith married at forty-three to the seventy-five year old mechanical engineer Henry Wollaston Blake in 1890. As of 1911, she was a windower after Blake's death, and living with her father.
This collection contains handwritten notes by Edith F. Hawkshaw on English architectural history, created in 1863. The associated essay covers Gothic, Semi-Norman, Early English, Decorated English, Perpediucular English, and Debased English style of architecture.
