Scope and Content

The collection consists of a letter written by Dollie P. F. Keen to her unnamed brother sometime during the Civil War. In the letter Keen gives a description of life on the homefront. Keen describes the conditions of trading cotton in the area, family financial concerns, attempts by the men in her neighborhood to avoid military service, and an outbreak of the measles. On the back of the letter a poem is written in different handwriting from the letter.
