The processing, arrangement, and description of the Thomas A. Mahood Civil War Reminiscences was completed in 1979. Additional description was completed in March 2011.
Thomas Alexander Mahood was born in 1838. Prior to the Civil War, he was a carpenter in Giles County. He enlisted as a lieutenant with French's Battery, Giles Artillery (Wise Legion, Virginia Artillery) in May of 1861 and was reelected a year later. He served until at least 1864. The collection includes memoirs describing Wise Legion, Virginia Artillery involvement in the Battle of Drewry's Bluff (May 1864), and the actions of the commander General Henry A. Wise. The manuscript consists of a thirty-six page retrospective written by Thomas A. Mahood of his war experiences.
