This collection contains the professional papers of Professor Daniel J. Meador who was active on many faculty committees at the Law School and at the University. The papers include documents related to the Educational Policy, Appointments and Composition of the Student Body.

These files contaim a large collection of faculty memoranda and minutes, information concerning the library, curriculum, graduate program, grading system committees, and building of Phase I of North Grounds. There are also files on the Department of Justice speeches and testimonies.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Professor Meador transferred these files to the archives 30 June 1982.

Scope and Contents

This addendum to the Meador Papers is comprised of Justice Department Papers (1977-1982 and University faculty committee work (1976-1977).

The Justice Department papers are Meador's and Charles Haworth's personal and working papers on both phases of the federal circuit court plan. Meador's papers are arranged alphabetically and Haworth's mantained the chronology he gave to his files. There are also papers related to the Federal Court Improvement Act, copies of the legislative history, and Meador's collection of memoranda, speeches, legislative material, and clippings on the new appellate court. hare numbered

The University of Virginia faculty committee files portray Meador's work on a number of law school and university-wide committees, one of which is restricted

This addition to Professor Daniel J. Meador Papers (40 boxes, 18 linear ft.) is arranged according to the order in which it was found in his office at the University of Virginia after his death. A large compilation of general papers arranged by alphabetical order, relate to his professional work with different organizations, the Appellate Courts, the Justice Department and is followed by papers pertaining to specific legal cases. There is extensive documentation related to Mr. Meador's fictional works and papers pertaining to his academic writings. The collection also contains photographs, certificates, printed materials and other miscellaneous items.

The General Papers comprised all professional files and teaching materials.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This collection was transferred to the archives in the Summer of 2013.
