Abstract
Correspondence, photographs and miscellaneous papers of the Gamble family, who settled in Hardy County during the eighteenth
century. The collection contains letters written during the Civil War and reflect the experiences of Mortimer Gamble, Henry
R. Gamble, Carr Gamble, Hamilton Gamble and Mary L. (Pratt) Gamble. Henry Gamble served in the 12th Virginia Regiment; Carr
in the 62nd Virginia Regiment; and Hamilton in the 23rd Virginia Cavalry. Included in the collection is a reprint of a speech
by M.W. Gamble to the Moorefield Memorial Society; legal documents concerning land transactions in Hardy County, and an inventory
of the estate of H.M. Gamble.
