Abstract
Documents regarding the Hibbs family of Preston County, (West) Virginia and Union soldier Benjamin Hughes, who was a friend of the family. Civil War material includes a document granting furlough to Hughes, and a letter from him to L.W. Hibbs. There are also financial and legal documents, including land documents, tax records, and promissory notes, of transactions involving William Hibbs and Laban W. Scope and Contents

Documents regarding the Hibbs family of Preston County, (West) Virginia and Union soldier Benjamin Hughes (ca. 1842-1923, birth dates vary among sources), who was a friend of the family. Hughes was mustered on January 26, 1864 and served in the 3rd West Virginia Mounted Infantry, and Company D of the West Virginia 6th Cavalry. Civil War material includes a document granting furlough to Hughes, and a letter from him to L. W. Hibbs. Hughes married Virginia Susan McCallister in 1872.

There are also financial and legal documents, including land documents, tax records, and promissory notes, of transactions involving brothers William Hibbs (1832-1910) and Laban W. Hibbs (1834-1896); and a group photograph of William Hibbs and family.
