This collection consists of an early 1850s contractor's proposal for the construction of dams, guards, and locks - numbers one through four, on the North River (now Maury River) in Rockbridge County, Virginia. It is a printed form with hand written details including a projected project completion date of 1857. The proposal is signed by canal contractor Benjamin J. Jordan, Rockbridge County, Va. The second item is a four page report and cost estimate on the potential for constructing one of the North River dams signed by engineer John A. Byers in 1852.
