Biographical

Anne Virginia (also Ann, Anna, and Annie) Hendrick was born on February 20, 1831, to William "Buck" Hendrick, Jr., a wealthy plantation owner and enslaver of at least 83 people in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. She married farmer and miller Armstead G. (also Armistead) Boyd (1816-1886) on April 25, 1848, and they had several children, including Mary (also Mollie), Ann R., Alice G., Pannie, William H., Emma B. They lived in Horseford Mill, in what is now known as Bracey in Mecklenburg County.

In 1840, Armistead G. Boyd enslaved 3 children under the age of 10 and an adult woman. In 1850, he enslaved 14 people from 4 months old to 42 years old. In 1860, he enslaved 72 men, women, and children, ranging in ages from 9 months to 70 years old. None of their names are recorded in these documents.

Anne Hendrick Boyd died on Sept. 14, 1904, and is buried along with her husband and other family members in the Boyd Family Cemetery of Horseford Plantation in Bracey.
