Biographical Note

James Anthony was a resident of Buchanan, Virginia. He worked for Colonel James H. Pipen in Wytheville before working at the James River Company.

Scope and Content

The James Anthony Letter is written by James Anthony in Buchanan, Virginia, on August 2, 1850, to Colonel James H. Pipen in Wytheville, Virginia. Anthony describes a job offer from the James River Company and his resignation from his job working for Colonel Pipen, shows admiration for his employer, and offers a replacement for his position. The letter is postmarked from Pattonsburg, which was located across the James River from Buchanan.
