The Anti-Saloon League of Virginia was established in 1901. With the help of Protestant evangelicals in the state, they gained support in the state and succeeded in bringing in Prohibition in 1916. The league retained power until 1933, at the end of prohibition.

This collection includes an undated Notice of Temperance Meetings. The meeting was held by Rev. J. W. West, of Richmond, Virginia, Field Secretary of the Anti-Saloon League of Virginia. The notice includes a list of subjects discussed by West and testimonials praising his work and past speeches. Testimonials were mostly written by other religious leaders, but there is one from an ex-saloon keeper. Based on one testimonial that includes a date, this notice was probably written sometime between Oct. 14, 1903 and 1909.
