George W. Beach was a captain in the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 3rd Corps of the Union Army during the United States Civil War.
The collection contains a letter from George W. Beach to James Earle, dated September 26, 1863. The letter responds to an earlier letter from James Earle and describes why Beach's brigade has limited rations. Beach states "when drawing of my subsistence stores at the 'Depot' in Culpeper they were not furnished, as they were not on hand..." The letter also has several endorsements signed by various officers and commissary agents, including Lt. Col. George H. Woods, 1st Minnesota and Brevet Brig. General Daniel D. Wiley. The majority of the endorsements are written on the back of the letter, with one pasted onto the side and folded in.
