Katherine Roy Gordon was born in 1895 in Virginia. She was a member of the Armistead Gordon family and married to John Barry Cary the youngest son of Thomas Archibald Cary and the grandson of Colonel John Baytop Cary. It is probable that the manuscript portion of this volume was started early in her marriage, somewhere between 1915 and 1920.
This collection contains the recipe book of Katherine G. Cary entitled "Recipes: My Friends' and My Own," circa 1900. The front free endpaper of the book is signed by Katherine G. Cary. Mrs. Cary has penned some 107 recipes, mostly unattributed but one or two by friends or relations. Recipes include soups (Watercress Soup and Chestnut Soup), breads, fish and poultry (Lobster Newburg, Jellied Chicken, and partridge), salad dressing, sauces, pickles, and more.
