The processing, arrangement, and description of the Cincinnati & Eastern Railroad Company Records commenced and was completed in September 2013.
Administrative History
The Cincinnati & Eastern Railroad, established in 1876, had been founded as the Cincinnati, Batavia and Williamsburg Railroad earlier that year. The line, completed in 1884, ran from a point north of Cincinnati eastward to Portsmouth, Ohio. The company went into foreclosure and was purchased in 1887 by the Ohio and North Western Railroad; through another foreclosure, it passed to the Cincinnati, Portsmouth and Virginia Railroad in 1891. The CP&V was in turn acquired by Norfolk and Western Railway Company in 1901. Today (2013) the line is owned by Norfolk Southern.
Scope and Content
This collection contains financial records of the Cincinnati & Eastern Railroad Company. All of the records are dated January, 1877, though there are documents for earlier transactions attached to some of the vouchers. The collection includes payroll records as well as expenditure vouchers.
