Custodial History

This collection, which originally belonged to Margaret McIntyre while a student at State Teachers College, was acquired by Nancy Shelton during her tenure with Longwood University's Department of Alumni Relations. It is unknown when this collection was transfered to the Greenwood Library Archives.


Biographical / Historical

Margaret Amelia McIntyre of Marion, South Carolina was born in 1924 to George Archibald McIntyre and Mary G. (Boatwright) McIntyre. From 1942 to 1946, she attended [then] State Teachers College in Farmville, Virginia, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. While a student at State Teachers College, McIntyre was involved in several organizations, including serving on the Colonnade staff and membership in the YWCA, the Athletic Association, Pi Kappa Sigma, House Council, Pan-Hellenic Council, Cotillion Club, Spanish Club, and Future Teachers of America. Additionally, Margaret Amelia McIntyre, was the third generation of her family to attend State Teachers College (and its predecessor State Female Normal School), was a member of the Granddaughters Club. Her mother graduated in 1913 and her grandmother, Jean Carruthers Boatwright graduated in 1886.

Scope and Contents

The freshman "rat cap" beanie in this collection, which dates from 1942, belonged to Margaret Amelia McIntyre.
