Biographical sketch

The decades followed the Civil War saw a resurgence of Southern patriotism and ancestral memory known as "The Lost Cause." Families of Civil War veterans, particularly southern families, enshrined the memories of their relatives that had fought in the war by creating memorials, monuments, and scrapbooks such as this one.

Scope and content

This collection consists of a former ledger book, repurposed as a scrapbook, with newspaper clippings and photographs, all glued onto the pages, mostly remarking on major Confederate figures such as Lee, Jackson, and Davis.
