Historical Information

Since 1965, George Mason University students have produced a yearbook under various names, including the Advocate, By-George!, Senior Expressions, and GM View. The layouts varied considerably, although most included portraits of each class up until 1988. The following year, the print version of the yearbook was slimmed down and included portraits of only the senior class, and the students produced a video "yearbook" to accompany the print version. Though each year's video production was different from the others, they all maintained the same basic format: a length of about 30 minutes and coverage of university sports, greek life, and campus events such as Mason Day, Patriots' Day, International Week, and commencement.

Scope and Content

This collection contains George Mason University yearbooks from 1965 to 2012. Most of the volumes contain information about a single year at the GMU Fairfax campus. The date listed for the yearbooks is the date they were published following the spring semester but the yearbooks themselves document the previous fall semester.

There are a couple of notable exceptions. One yearbook documents the GMU School of Law from 1981-1982, the first year of operations. The other exception is the two volume set for 1978-1979. One volume documents the 1978 fall semester and the other documents the 1979 spring semester.
