The act which established the previous Land Office passed the General Assembly on 22 June 1779. The register was the head of the Office and was appointed by joint ballot of both houses of the legislature.
These records contain publications from various states, mainly rules and regulations for the enforcement of weights and measures laws of individual states and instructions for weights and measures officials in the discharge of their duties. Included also are two annual reports of the Department of Public Safety in Richmond, Virginia. Publications are available for the cities of Chicago, Detroit, and Indianapolis, as well as the Federal Bureau of Standards, Washington, D.C.
Consists of a printed pamphlet entitled "Ordinances Governing the Department of Weights and Measures," published in Chicago in 1915. Compiled and arranged by W. F. Cluett, Chief Deputy.
Consists of a printed pamphlet entitled "An Ordinance Relating to Weights and Measures," issued by the Detroit Police Department.
Consists of a printed pamphlet entitled "Laws and Ordinances Governing the Department of Weights and Measures of the City of Indianapolis," compiled by Chief Inspector Isidur Wolfson.
Consists of two Annual Reports of the Bureau of Weights and Measures of the City of Richmond for 1919 and 1922, published in 1920 and 1923 respectively.
Consists of six items and four unique publications from the Department of Commerce, including circulars of the Bureau of Standards, technologic papers of the Bureau of Standards, and a publication from the Twelfth Annual Conference of Representatives from Various States, 1919.
