Virginia. Land Office. List of officers on continental establishment, A-Z, from the Virginia Land Office, undated. Accession Land Office inventory entry no. 98, State government records collection, The Library of Virginia, Archives Branch, Richmond, VA 23219.
Accession LOI 98 transferred by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, 1948.
The act which established the previous Land Office next hit passed the General Assembly on 22 June 1779. The register was the head of the Office and was appointed by joint ballot of both houses of the legislature.
These records provide a list of officers on continental establishment, providing each officers' name, rank, and in some cases the branch of service. The names are arranged alphabetically by the first letter of the surname. A comparison of this volume with published sources indicates that the list is composed entirely of Virginians. Further identification of this volume has not been determined. According to a notation on the inside cover, 35 names were sent to a Major P. (name illegible) on March 23, 1814.
