After the conclusion of the French and Indian War, the British government issued a proclamation designed to prevent clashes between the settlers and Indians. This proclamation of 1763 forbid settlement west of the Alleghany mountains.
These records contain a list of a dozen entries giving the name of the warrantee, the number of acres allowed, and the number of the warrant. Recipients of these military warrants include Jacob Boughman, Richard Williamson, John Kinkead, Solomon Simpson, Edward Gill, James Ryan, Christopher Best, Christopher Finnie, William Hughs, John Johnston, Evan Shelby, and Arthur Campbell. There is one entry for a warrant which was partially completed, issued to Dr. John Briscoe.
