previous hitPowhatan next hit previous hitCounty next hit was named for the paramount chief of the previous hitPowhatan next hit Indians in the tidewater of Virginia in the late sixteenth and early years of the seventeenth century. It was formed from Cumberland previous hitCounty next hit in 1777, and part of Chesterfield previous hitCounty next hit was added in 1850. The documents record names of slaves and free African Americans. Also included are Naturalization Records dated 1902.
