The Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators was established in 1971 to regulate individuals who operate water and wastewater treatment facilities. The Board issues licenses to operate waterworks or wastewater works. It also protects public health, welfare and property, conserves and protects water resources of the Commonwealth and requires examination of operators and certification of their competence to supervise and operate waterworks and wastewater works. In 2009, oversight for Onsite Sewage System Professionals was added to the responsibilities of the board and the name of the board was changed. The Dept. of Professional and Occupational Regulation provides administrative support to the board.
