Biographical Information

William Edward Elmore was born on 8 February 1925. He is the son of Charles Edward Elmore (1899-1991) and Mary Sophronia Virginia Thomas (1903-1985). He graduated from Parks Air College, and then worked as an aeronautical engineer at Lockheed Aircraft Company in Burbank, California, and later at McDonnell Aircraft Company in St. Louis. Elmore married Betty Lou Fishback (b. 1930) in St. Louis on 6 December 1952. Elmore died 17 January 2018, and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis.

Scope and Content

Papers, 1976-2006, of William E. Elmore (1925-2018) of Florissant, St. Louis County, Missouri, containing genealogical research on the Elmore family, most notably the descendants of Thomas Elmore (ca. 1642-1705) of New Kent and York Counties, Virginia. The material was used to compile various "working papers" and histories, including "The Trunk of an Elmore Family Tree." The collection is divided into subject files and correspondence and source files.

The subject files include notes from research visits to various courthouses in Virginia and North Carolina, chronologies and timelines of life events of various Elmore descendants, lists of correspondents and addresses, published sources, English research, and family group sheets.

Extent: 6 boxes.

The correspondence and source files include abstracts and copies of information from census records, deeds, land grants and patents, marriage records, military records, parish registers, tax lists, and wills. There is also correspondence from other Elmore family members and researchers, including many letters from Myrtle B. Elmore (1918-1999), Lloyd DeWitt Bockstruck (b. 1945), and Paula Underwood Spencer (1932-2000). Each file is consecutively numbered from 1 to 1651. The files were used to compile the chronologies and timelines and numerous "working papers" found in the subject files, as well as "The Trunk of an Elmore Family Tree" in 1992. The files numbers are also noted in the lists of correspondents found in the subject files.
