This item came to the Library of Virginia in a shipment of court papers from Warren County.

Historical Information

Warren County was named for Joseph Warren, the revolutionary patriot who sent Paul Revere and William Dawes on their famous rides and who was killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill. The county was formed from Frederick and Shenandoah counties in 1836.

Scope and Content

Warren County (Va.) General Index to Wills, 1835-1935, contains the names of the people's wills and the fiduciary documents relating to their estate. This book include entries for wills, inventories, appraisements, estate accounts, accounts of sale, guardian accounts, committee accounts, trustee accounts, bonds, and other fiduciary records. The name of the Will Books and the page number on which the wills and the fiduciary accounts are recorded, are given in the index.

The book is arranged alphabetically. In each of the alphabetical section, the records start with Will Book A, 1838-1849 and continue through Will Book K, 1933-1935.
