Parts of Monroe County were added in 1853 and 1856, part of Montgomery County was added in 1853, part of Alleghany County added in 1856, and part of Giles County added in 1858.

Scope and Content

Craig County (Va.) County Court and Circuit Court Minute Books, 1863-1866, consist of County Court Minute Books, 1863-1866 and a Circuit Court Minute Book, 1864-1866.

Along with closely related court records such as order books, minute books record all matters brought before the court when it was in session and may contain important information not found anywhere else. Generally minute books contain brief entries. A locality's loose papers are the raw materials from which this type of book was created. Like order books, a wide variety of information is found in its pages including: appointments of county officers, appointments of guardians and administrators, records of legal disputes heard before the court, and matters related to the fiscal management of the court.
