Gift of the Society of the Descendants of Peter Francisco, Anne Wilson, treasurer; and Donald R. Pruitt
The Society of the Descendants of Peter Francisco was founded in 1971 to promote knowledge of Peter Francisco (1760-1831),
a Revolutionary War hero; to provide information on the Peter Francisco family genealogy; and to repair and restore Locust
Grove, the home of Peter Francisco. The society also promotes the history of the American Revolution and the heritage of the
Portuguese-American community.
Papers, 1971-2013, of the Society of the Descendants of Peter Francisco (SDPF) , relating to the general operations of the
SDPF, its efforts to promote knowledge of Peter Francisco (1760-1831), its membership, its finances, and its relations with
other historical and cultural organizations. Papers include applications, articles, audiocassettes, biographies, books, brochures,
bylaws, cards, certificates, clippings, correspondence, emails, forms, genealogies, insurance policies, invitations, invoices,
lists, maps, minutes, newsletters, notes, obituaries, photographs, poems, programs, receipts, reports, schedules, speeches,
tax records, and other papers.

photographs, poems, and other papers concerning the life of Peter Francisco, Francisco family genealogy, activities of the
SDPF, and news from individual members.
Financial records, 1971-2012, consisting of treasurer's notebook, 1971-2000, mainly listing membership dues paid, but also
donations for Locust Grove, tax information, and receipts; expenses, 2000-2012, of the SDPF consisting of reimbursements for
supplies and services and including invoices and receipts; treasurer's reports, 1974-2012, for income and expenses of the
SDPF; and general papers, 1971-2011, containing correspondence, notes, and receipts regarding the financial operations of
the SDPF, as well as a list of donations to various organizations by the SDPF, including payment for a lifetime membership
for Peter Francisco in the Masons. Collection also includes insurance records, 1980-1992, containing correspondence, invoices,
policies, and other papers regarding insurance for Locust Grove.
Peter Francisco papers consist of accounts of Peter Francisco's fight with British soldiers at Ward's Tavern; Francisco's
funeral; the Peter Francisco razor case at Guilford Court House National Battlefield Park; possible Susannah Anderson Francisco
gravesite; and Peter Francisco miscellany containing Russian-language article, brochures, Masons records, and Peter Francisco
biographical sketches.
Locust Grove, 1972-1996, contains applications, articles, brochures, certificates, correspondence, invoices, lists, maps,
notes, receipts, reports, tax records, and other papers regarding the SDPF's acquistion and restoration of Peter Francisco's
home, Locust Grove, in Buckingham County, Virginia.
