Acquisition Information

These items came to the Library of Virginia in shipments of court papers from Lee County under accession 44298.

Historical Information

Lee County was named Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee, governor of Virginia from 1791 to 1794. It was formed from Russell County in 1792. Part of Scott County was added in 1823. Its area is 438 square miles, and the county seat is Jonesville.

Scope and Content

Lee County (Va.) Miscellaneous Records, 1889-1950, contains the following record types: Bonds/Commissions/Oaths, Corporation Records, Election Records, Fiduciary Records, Organization Records, Overseers of the Poor Records, and Tax and Fiscal Records.

Bonds/Commissions/Oaths, 1903-1926, consist of appointments of officials, nominations, and officials' resignations.

Corporation Records contain corporation charters for 1829-1901.

Election Records, 1889-1933, contain petitions contesting elections, election district boundary reports, and orders for elections.

Fiduciary Records are guardians' accounts for 1928-1950.

Organization Records consist of Church Appointments of Trustees, 1893-1945.
