Frederick County was named in honor of Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales and eldest son of George II. It was formed from Orange County in 1738, but, because the region was sparely settled, county government was not organized until 1743. Part of Augusta County was added later.
Frederick County (Va.) Democratic Executive Committee Minutes, 1909 Jun. 12. The minutes document the appointment of a committee to conduct a primary election to select a Democratic nominee to represent the Democratic party of Frederick County as candidate for the legislature. The committee also resolved that the members of the Democratic Executive Committee beginning August 1909 be chosen by the primary voters, with three members chosen from each magisterial district.
