Norfolk County was formed from Lower Norfolk County in 1691. Now extinct, Norfolk County was incorporated into the city of Chesapeake in 1963.
The unrecorded will book of Norfolk County in this collection was created by the County Court.
Unrecorded Will Book, 1711-1761, of Norfolk County Court contains negative photostat copies of individual wills that were never recorded in court. They record the deceased's plan for how his or her estate was to be divided among his or her heirs following his or her death. Information commonly found in wills include the name of the deceased; names of heirs; a listing of real and personal property (including slaves) and how it was to be divided among the heirs; and names of individuals who were to be the will's executors.
