Scope and Content

Charlotte County (Va.) Commissioner of the Revenue Memorandum Books, 1806-1840, are rough drafts of personal property taxes compiled by the Commissioners of the Revenue. There is no index.

Many of the memorandum books contain lists of free negroes and mulattoes following the tax information. Lists exist in the volumes for the years 1807, 1810, 1811 (2 volumes), 1817, 1820, 1821, 1822, 1823, 1824, 1825 (2 volumes), 1826, 1828, 1832, 1835, 1839, and 1840.
