Amelia County was formed in 1734 from Brunswick and Prince George counties.
Amelia County (Va.) Oyer and Terminer Minute Book, 1763-1764, 1785-1791, records brief summaries of court actions in felony cases brought before the court of oyer and terminer including charges such as theft of livestock and goods, rape, murder, insurrection, and forgery. Many of the cases involve enslaved people as defendants. The cases are arranged by court date. There is no index.
