Historical Information
Fluvanna County takes its name from an eighteenth-century term for the upper James River. The name, meaning river of Anne, was originally bestowed in honor of Queen Anne of England. The county was formed from Albemarle County in 1777.
These records were replevined by the Library of Virginia following the trial entitled Commonwealth of Virginia vs. Larry I. Vass heard in Henrico County Circuit Court in November 1972.
Scope and Content
Fluvanna County (Va.) Court Records, 1817-1855. The collection contains various documents removed from Fluvanna County chancery records and other unidentified court records series. Chancery causes referenced in the documents are as follows: Brannan vs. Marshall, 1832; Amblar vs. Cary's Administrator, 1833; Lucado vs. Johnson's Executors, 1833; Perkins vs. Quarles, 1834; Bass and wife vs. George, 1835; Hodgson vs. Gray and Shepherd, 1835; Hodgson vs. McLein and George, etc., 1836; Ross's executor vs. Payne and wife, 1836; Bowles vs. Boothe and Mills, 1836; Bell vs. Hughes, 1837; Key vs. Key's Administrator, 1837; Wells vs. Grasly, 1838-1839, and the Fluvanna County Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery cause William Lane vs. Simpson B. Flanagan, etc., 1839. Documents include accounts, affidavits, answers, depositions, envelopes, letters, orders, a memo, notices of publication, petitions, and subpoenas.
