Historical Information

Frederick County was named in honor of Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales and eldest son of George II. It was formed from Orange County in 1738, but, because the region was sparsely settled, county government was not organized until 1743. Part of Augusta County was added later.

Scope and Content

Frederick County (Va.) Deed and Land Grants, 1789-1853. The collection contains four land grants and one deed, as follows: a land grant to George Kiger, 1793 Jan. 29; a land grant to Alfred Orndorff, 1853 Sept. 1; a land grant to John Fyfe, 1789 June 30; a land grant to Robert Macky, 1815 Apr. 26; and a deed between John Magill and Thomas Barclay, 1790 Dec. 14.
